Step Inside: A Cozy Modern + Minimal Cabin
As fans of interiors, we're always looking for inspiring spaces to feature. So when we stumbled upon this modern, minimal cabin on our way to the coast, we knew we had to come back to capture it via camera.
Nestled in the lush landscape of the Pacific Northwest and full of thoughtful design details, this dreamy dwelling made the perfect backdrop for our latest Holiday Collection. Scroll below to take a tour of an oh-so picturesque retreat and read our styling tips for the season of hosting ahead.
1. Decorate With Natural Materials
For the outdoor deck, we wanted to let the lush surroundings sing, so we focused on natural wooden materials and tones. While using earthy elements isn't new, we've been seeing a modern take on it this year—opt for wooden furniture with clean lines and sculptural silhouettes, then pair it with softer design elements like a cozy throw blanket, pillow or plush area rug (if you're styling indoors).
On the deck, the muted tones of the throw blanket add a soft cozy touch without distracting from the beauty of the teak chair.
2. Play up the Plaid
Styling your home with plaid in a subtle and tasteful way can bring a cozy and classic look to your decor without overwhelming the space. While plaid isn't new to the market, we've been seeing a recent resurgence of this pattern in bright hues (like poppy or juniper).
The key to avoiding an overpowering plaid presence is to keep your space minimal and use it as an accent rather than a dominant pattern. Let the patterned pieces you choose stand out on their own. Think plaid pillows, throw blankets, or table linens. These smaller, interchangeable items can be swapped out easily to change the look with the seasons or your mood.
If you want to go for a plaid statement-piece, like a rug or accent chair, make sure the rest of the room is balanced with neutral or solid colors.
3. Add a Nostalgic Touch
Although the cabin we visited was a brand new build, there were lots of nostalgic, retro touches like the orange mid-century fireplace, vintage books, and games on the bookshelves, so we leaned into that vibe with our styling. Whether you choose to incorporate family heirlooms or thrifted finds, layering in pieces with a past is an easy way to add character to a modern living space.

Infuse your bedding with warm colors—update your throw pillow cover, change out your sheet set, or add a cozy quilt to the bottom of your bed. Layering with outdoor-inspired hues will naturally elevate your living space and stay timeless long after the season is over.
