Holiday How-To: Fixing A Cup Of Cheer

Are you looking for a special cocktail to wow your guests this season? Or perhaps you're in need of a cheery drink to help you celebrate the holiday? Maybe you want a delicious mocktail with some festive flair for the kids. No matter what you're looking for, we've got you covered. Below you'll find two recipes for special cups of cheer you'll want to keep sipping on long after the season ends. 

Cheerful Chai Old Fashioned

Ingredients:

For the Chai Syrup:

  • 8 chai tea bags

  • 2/3 cup maple syrup

  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

For the Cocktail:

  • 2 ounces bourbon or rye

  • 2 ounces chai syrup

  • 1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice

  • 1/2 ounce fresh orange juice

  • 3-5 drops of bitters

  • Star anise, tangerine slice, and rosemary sprig for garnish

 

Directions:

  1. In a small pot, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Remove from heat, add in the tea bags, cover, and let steep for 15 minutes.

  2. Remove the tea bags and add in the maple syrup and vanilla extract. Bring mixture to a boil then reduce to a simmer for 5 minutes. Allow to cool completely.

  3. In a cocktail shaker, combine ice, bourbon, chai syrup, lemon juice, orange juice, and bitters. Shake until well chilled, about 30 seconds.

  4. Strain into a glass with large ice cubes and garnish before serving.

Sweet + Spiced Holiday Mocktail

Ingredients:

For the Mocktail:

  • 2 cups freshly-squeezed blood orange juice (about 3-4 large blood oranges)

  • 1 cup freshly-squeezed orange juice

  • 1 grapefruit, freshly-squeezed

  • 1 lemon, freshly-squeezed

  • ½ cup agave

  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • fizzy drink, to top (such as ginger beer, seltzer water, etc.)

For the Garnish:

  • Whole cranberries

  • Sliced orange, blood orange, and/or grapefruit wedges

  • Fresh rosemary sprigs

 

Directions: 

  1. In a pitcher, add the blood orange juice, orange juice, grapefruit juice, lemon juice, agave, and cinnamon together and stir until combined.

  2. For each drink, fill an 8-ounce glass halfway with crushed ice. Add ½ cup of the mocktail mixture and garnish with sliced fruit and a rosemary sprig.

  3. Top with ginger beer or fizzy drink until glass is filled and enjoy!
