Sustainable Summer DIY: Potato Block Printing
In case you missed it, we're celebrating July with Schoolhouse Summer Camp — a seasonal series filled with simple crafts and fun recipes all based around the joyful nostalgia of (you guessed it) camp.
We started the day off with ice dyeing, and now we're moving on to another team favorite: potato printing. Whether you're looking for a simple solo activity or have little ones to entertain, below, Jorie shares an easy and sustainable summer craft to keep boredom at bay. SUPPLIES:

Potatoes

Fabric paint

Small foam paint rollers

Canvas
-
Knives

Pencil or marker
DIRECTIONS:
1. Prepare Potatoes
Cut the potatoes in half (can be cut crosswise or lengthwise, depending on your design). Then, trace your desired stamp shape onto the flat surface of the potato using a pencil or marker.
2. Cut Out Stamp Shape
Using a small knife or blade, cut along your traced line. Once the stamp shape is finalized, slice around the edge of the potato to remove the outside of the traced design and reveal your stamp.
3. Paint + Stamp
Using a paint roller, cover the surface of your potato stamp. Stamp onto your canvas and reapply paint in between each stamp.
4. Dry + Display
Let the paint dry. Then, hang and display using a magnetic framing kit or a thrifted frame.
